In gravity and sand casting, eutectic aluminum silicon alloys (7-13% silicon) are typically treated with sodium flux to modify the silicon structure and improve mechanical properties. After processing alloys with products such as Crystal 2007/M, Napal 700, or Nabox: it is important to use Flotab 5 to maintain the required amount of sodium in the alloy during the furnace's emptying period. Another important aspect is to verify various parameters that may affect sodium modification in metals: metal amount and holding temperature, initial dosage of modified products, achieved parts per million, and parts per million that should be maintained over the expected time period until the new alloy is filled into the furnace. Flotab 5 is produced in 500g tablets and should be added to a slag free, clean metal surface to release its sodium content. Tablet decomposition will occur within 45-60 minutes, depending on the metal temperature and surface cleanliness.
